6 Years After RJC Judo
It was a gathering with friends I hadn’t seen in a while. We had planned to meet up for my belated birthday dinner. There were only five of us, as the rest of them couldn’t make it for various reasons. A few were overseas (like the one I mentioned in my entry “The Power of MSN”), and one was stuck in the hospital because of night duty.
We were the RJC Judokas. Haha. I was actually closer to this group of friends, compared to my classmates. During training sessions when I was in RJ, we probably went through more torture together, and so we also encouraged and pushed one another on.
When we met up last Sunday night at Suntec City, we had originally planned to eat Ma La Hotpot. However, it was too expensive, so I suggested we go to Ichiban Boshi (one of my fave Jap places) instead. So we started off from the Ma La Hotpot restaurant, turned left and started to trek around the Fountain of Wealth to find Ichiban Boshi. We walked and walked and walked… only to find that Ichiban Boshi was right next to the original restaurant we were at. We walked one entire round of the basement.
How stupid can RJC ex-students be? Hahaha
After settling down and ordering food, I started the picture-taking session. Later on, Melissa (the busy lawyer) joined us.

Food we shared – Agedashi Tofu & some Mushroom dish

Liling’s Set (something with Soba & Egg), and Zhixu’s Dinner (Chicken with rice, sprinkled with loads of Japanese seasoning)

Then after a satisfying dinner, it was group photo time!
But the dinner outing did not end there. I was craving for Swensens, so that’s exactly where we headed after the dinner. I was the birthday gal that night, so my word was law. Hahaha.
After exiting from Ichiban Boshi, we turned left to head for Swensens, which was somewhere around the Fountain of Wealth. Being smarter this time, I looked towards the right-hand side of Ichiban Boshi as my friends start walking in the other direction. Lo and behold, Swensens was located two shopfronts to the right of Ichiban Boshi! I called my friends, who did an about-turn.
Thank God for my brains. Hahahaha.
Soon after, our various desserts arrived.

Liling with her huge Nutty Sundae thingy, which she was originally supposed to share with Zhixu
Liling & Zhixu were originally supposed to share the Nutty Sundae dessert, but a sudden situation occurred. Liling’s boyfriend was going to appear at our gathering! We have never met her bf before, and so Zhixu decided not to share ice-cream with Liling, to prevent any misunderstanding from occurring. In the end, Jianhao & Zhixu had to “lovingly” share one Sundae.
While eating/drinking our desserts, Zhixu was suggesting various questions that we should ask Liling’s bf. In the meantime, Jianhao seemed to be contemplating the meaning of ice-cream. As evident by the picture below.
Finally, the long-awaited Guest of Honour arrived.
On a side note, Liling has been hiding this relationship from her parents for the past few months. Her friends & I really hope she can be able to resolve this issue with them, because as we all know, hiding the truth is not necessarily the best way out. But I hope everything turns out well for her in the end.
Anyway, in the end, Zhixu chickened out of asking questions. And the questioning was left to none other than our lawyer, Melissa Heng. Liling was quite embarrassed by one question in particular, “What do you like about Liling?” In fact, I don’t think I’ve ever seen Liling so embarrassed before.
In the end, Zhixu was left to finish the Nutty Sundae, as Liling couldn’t finish it. Yum! I feel like eating ice-cream right now.
And once he was done with the ice-cream, we finished with another mandatory group photo.
It was a gathering which I hope will happen more often. I really miss all my friends from school, because we shared so much together. Losing contact seems like such a pity. Even though we’ve all got our different paths in life now: Zhixu & Qianming as doctors, Liling as an engineer, Melissa as a lawyer, Jingmin & Yuanyiu as bankers, Jianhao as a teacher/future researcher & lecturer, Me as an actor.
I’m looking forward to the end-of-year BBQ which Zhixu will be organising. Hopefully I can pick up where I left off, and re-build relationships with these very dear people in my life.
